I caught the quilting bug when I 'inherited' a bunch of stamped cross stitch quilt squares that needed to be finished and made into a quilt. I'm not an avid cross stitcher, but have many friends who are, and they volunteered to finish the squares for me. Then, a friend taught me how to make 9 patches to alternate with the c-stitched squares, and we all together hand quilted on a floor frame once a week til it was finished. Thus began my journey into the world of textile arts. The moral of the story? Our greatest endeavors begin with FRIENDS!

I have been crafty for as long as I can remember time so making things with my hands have always been a part of my life. I think I have a quilting virus! It has been with me since I was a little girl and would come to the surface and show symptoms every now and then. I finally learned to quilt from a co-worker when I was 24 years old. I have just turned 40 and my love for quilting continues to grow.

Sewing is not new to me - I decided when my 4 yr old niece turned a year old that for her first birthday I would make her a teddy bear with 4 outfits and a little tiny quilt. Then I decided it was fun making baby doll clothes and I was going to start making them and make a lot of money. WRONG!!! I got lots of compliments but very few purchases. Anyway, I woke up this past February and decided I wanted to make a quilt - after all, how difficult could it be, right? And that little quilting bug bit me HARD! I live in a one bedroom apt, and I bring my fabric to cut at work during lunch on their wonderful 8 foot long table. So far I've made 5 quilts - mostly baby size, but one was a full size quilt. I'm working on 2 queen size patchwork ones, as well as a stadium throw sized paper piece quilt - can't WAIT to see how that one turns out!

I fell in love with quilts as a child studying the beautiful quilts in my grandmother's house. Later I just liked the idea of taking something useless, and making something beautiful and useful with it. I love scrap quilts using fabric that is recycled, and or reused. Not to say I don't also buy fabric for quilts. The quilting bug is a legacy from my grandmother. ~Nita
